How High to Hang Your Wall Art
How high should I hang a print?
This question alone can make one hesitant to hang a favorite print or photograph on the wall. If you just wing it, chances are you will hang your frame too high.
The standard measurement in most art galleries is to have the center of the piece be at 57 inches, measured from the floor. (This is the standard eye-height of the average person.) Simply measure 57 inches on the wall and lightly mark with a pencil. The center of your frame or canvas should fall at that mark.
If you plan to hang a group of frames, then treat the grouping as one piece, and the center of that piece should fall at 57 inches.
An exception to this rule: if you are hanging art over furniture, then keep the distance between the furniture and the bottom of the frame at 12 inches or less. If it's a group of frames that is to be hung over furniture, simply keep the bottom of the grouping within 12 inches of the furniture, and work up from there.
Following these simple guidelines will ensure that the art on your wall will feel just right.
